Quick update before the weekend

Played Supersystem! at the BArons Chateau last night with the rest of the BAsement Generals. Fun, but the good guys got smoked again.

By random card draw, we had the 4 most experienced players on one side and the rest on the other. Add in some bad rolls for the good guys, and the damn henchmen for the bad guys, and we got shredded.

It's always fun though. Can't wait to get my Silver Age Soviet Super Force painted. Then they will face the wrath of The Commisar, Rasputin, Mother Russia, Pravda, Ursa Major, Ursa Minor, And the Red Storm Guards. MMMWWAHHHHH!!!!!!!

Oh yeah. I got the ruin primed black. Latex house paint. Its finally dry, so I hope to get some paint on it this weekend. And I got one shanty complete. Its actually quite nice for a shanty. Tarp door, corrugated metal roof, wood scrap walls. Lovely.

Update on my building

Quick update on my post apoc building. Got a good night on the rubbling of the building last night during a great mid-west thrunderstorm.

Overall I am pleased. I need to keep in mind the fact that these are for gaming and not miniature destroyed buildings.

I want to get this primed and painted so I can get it on the table. Hopefully I'll be hosting a game for RECRUITS this fall with this terrain. More to come. I can just feel the decay and the end of days flowing through my veins.

And what I spent most of my time on this weekend...

So as I was letting the basing material dry on my Rad Insects, and the hot glue gun was hot...I decided to bust out this:

A two-story large ruin, with front porch, and a lift off second level.

The building is made up of materials I use for terrain/building projects and includes:
Balsa and Bass wood(random bulk bags from Hobby Lobby)
Single-Ply Carboard (from packing boxes)
Cocktail sticks and shapes
MDF base
Vacu Formed sheet textures(for tile, etc.)
Gatorboard( similar to foam board, but instead of paper sandwiching foam, its a thin hardboard sandwiching foam. ten time stronger than foamboard, but harder to cut.)
Hot Glue
Tacky Glue
Scatter and Rocks and whatever for rubble

Base of builing. Build up of Balsa, on a carboard floor, on an MDF base

Full base, 28mm fig

Building exterior wals roughed out. Note hangover for porch.

All exterior walls fastened to base(gatorboard). Crown molding for ceiling/floor
shown halfway up walls.

From the front, showing overhang and supports for second floor.

So, that was about 4 hours this weekend. I am sure the insects are dry and ready to paint, but this has been too fun. Think I 'll keep going. After this, several rubble pieces, some Marx car rubble, and a selction of shanties.

Boredom...Post Apoc to the rescue

I have been in a bit of a rut lately. Doing prep work and getting ready to paint many things. But not painting anything. As usual, post apoc to the rescue.

I spent the time I had this weekend getting some more critters ready for Fallout/Post Apoc gaming.

Since one of the things in the aftermath has to be giant insects, I am doing some more Fallout 3 inspired Rad Scorpions and a Giant Beetle. All are dollar store soft plastic insects.

Since I already have some magenta/red ones, I am going to do these in blue or green. Greenies may do rad damage, bluies may do lightning strikes out of their stingers for ranged.

The new Scorps based and drying, ready for primer and paint.

Close up for scale with 28mm fig

And here is a Giant Beetle, to scare the bejesus out of the guys driving
the makeshift vehicles. with 28mm fig for scale.

So while i had my hot glue gun hot, and I was waiting for the basing material to dry so I could primer the bugs, I of course started another project. At least it was for Post Apoc!

In the next post I will show you what I spent most of my painting time on this weekend...

What's on the table?

Just a quick couple of thoughts about what's on the table at the moment.

I spent a couple of evenings, while watching Game of Thrones (AWESOME) on the ipad, cleaning, snipping tabs and basing and gluing shields on my next batch of spearmen for my Medieval Fantasy Warbands. I had enough old Bretonninans to cobble together 4 units of 6 of spear. One for the Kings Hunt Master Sir Vorgal Gullfold, and the rest for the service of the King.

So we will have, when complete, 5 Lords in the Kings service, plus the King. Each will have from 4-8 units of accompanying units of spear, bow, halberds, light horse, hvy horse, men at arms, hunters. I have about half fully complete. Including full retinues of 2 Lords, plus the other Lords themselves and the King. Also including,  Kings Champion (GW green knight), a couple of other characters, mounted mage, lady, and sorceress. Mostly have the fill in troops to finish.

These will be opposed by a joint skirmish force of Sylvan Elves and Sea Elves (GW Wood Elves and High Elves) and the Great Ravening Hordes from the North (old GW Chaos Marauders, Chaos Knights, and maybe some beastmen thrown in). And of course a campaign would be great. We'll see if we ever get there. First off, finish the Humans.

I have taken my GZG Hi-Mobility and Grav Sled forces off the table and placed them in their boxes. Lost the bug for now on painting armor, but they are ready to go when I am.

I have been staring at my old GW confrontation figs lined up on the table for a while. So they may be getting some love this holiday weekend.

Also picked through my 15mm Fantasy and got a nice selection of heroes, adventurers, and monsters for my 15mm dungeon project. Got about half the monsters on paint sticks ready to go. They should be getting love this wekend too. Skeletons, wights, orcs, minotaurs, ogres, spiders, cultists, goblins, giant lizards and vermin. Fun.

And as a great surprise, I got my box from Khurasan. The whole Post Apoc line, the Sepulvidan Resisatnce fighters for Post Apoc,  and some odds and ends characters for Blasters and Bulkheads. Which...

...We played at the Barons Castle last night with the rest of the Generals. Great fun was had by all. Its gonna be a fun set of rules. Needs some tweaking on some things. But overall a good time.
