28mm Samurai...reprise

I gotta break this stuff out again. It's been since 09. I have a this great set up and all the painted figs. I may have posted these a long time ago but ran across them in a folder the other day.

I have asked for the Osprey Ronin rules for xmas so maybe that gives me a chance to break it out. I have a bunch of painted units, but they are painted in my early stages(not great). Those are Old Glory mostly and a few L5R figs. I have all my classic Foundry and GW Oriental Heroes mounted on singles so maybe its time to dip and strip them and repaint them up to current standards. And I have a bunch of unpainted stuff of course. Including my pride and joy, Oriental Heroes Nippon Rocket Launchers.

Meanwhile here's some eye candy that makes me want to return to gaming on the Misty Isle. Terrain is scratchbuilt by me except the mountains, Torii gate and bridge, and rice paddys are by the Baron. :

The List - 2011 Fall 2012 winter Projects

OK so here we go:

1. EPIC - Well I muct say, painting some ultramarine on a sprue of original beaky Space Marines has been pretty fun and nostalgic. And the last few releases of models are just gorgeous. I had forgotten that. So I am gonna pick off EPIC as I go into the long night, to hopefully emerge from the shadows with a painted Space Marine, Orc and Eldar force. Imperial Guard may be too much to ask, but I have a bunch of it too. And that Damn Chaos and Squat stuff. Focus...Focus.

2. VIKINGS - I love my new collection of Vikings. I need to add some odds and ends to it, but its in really good shape. I will add some trolls (I have a nice selection of assorted old GW Trolls just for the job) Dire Wolves (I have a bunch of Plastics from GW kits), Valkyrie Leader (Maybe convert one of my unbuilt Bretonnian Pegasus Rider mounts), Hill Giant (Again GW plastic, beautiful), then probably figure out how to do some goblins, and press some Orcs into service as more trolls, ogres, and giant kin. Really going for a more Ragnaok-y kinda thing here.

3. SAMURAI - Love my sammies. Not painted great. From my old days when I was learning, but they look good together. and look even better now on group bases. Going to play Commands and Colors and Commands and Colors Fantasy and Hail Caesar with them. Need to do ground work, flock, static grass, etc. Then decide if I want to paint more of my Old Glory and L5R sammies, or go for it and do the Perry's stuff and stay historical. I am leaing toward the Perry's. I also have a nice selection of the L5R Goblins to add to the mix, so they are perfect for C&CF, beautifully sculpted too. And if you can get the Bob Ollie samurai orcs and goblins sculpts then you have added a pretty colorful army to the collection.

4. 15mm FANTASY - This is the ongoing project. Really need to do basing and flock for these guys to get them finished. Undead are on paint sticks already, and I have a great selection of Thain from Demonworld, so kinda anxious to get them painted as well.

5. 15mm NAPOLEONICS - A rebasing project. They look good rebased. And since I will never use them the way they are based, they need to be converted. Once rebased I can play Commands & Colors Napoleonics and Black Powder. This is a big project, just because of the sheer vilume of my exsting collection. But it will look good when done.

Gonna keep the list to 5 this time. But you all know me. I will certainly add to it. I am pretty sure I will come back to Post Aocalyptic when I am suffering some general malaise, I always do. And I have all my 15mm Sci Fi to do as well. And I have been thinking about doing some 15mm scale 2'x2' game boards for me and the boys to play on. Be fun to have some pull out boards to skirmish on in 15mm. Now I can get back to painting. Finally.

Post Apac Fallout /Gamma World Stuff and Samurai?

Hey gang.

I love that the Workshop and Basement of Doom is done. Now, all of the unfinished projects and unpainted lead stare at my back, as I paint, begging to be done.

I thought I would restart my Nappies, but am pausing on that so it can be a winter project. Along with either my Vikings or Fantasy. And if the mercenary box set gets released by xmas, then a new War of the Roses project will start, Perry minis of course. Especially since they announced the heavy cav plastics as well.

So til then, I am being very productive. I have cranked out a couple dozen survivors for my post apoc/fallout/union archology stuff. And started cranking out monsters, mutants and insane robots.

Tons more done too. Getting close on this one. I have 3 new warbands to paint that are nice and Gamm Worldy, so I will finish those, add a couple more beasties, and finish a couple of terrain peices and we should be ready to go for a while.

I started repainting my 6mm sci fi armor and infantry to play with Future War Commander. Haven't played yet, but on the third read through of the rules, it finally clicked, so I am looking forward to the first games. Ultimately I want to play FWC with 15mm. So I need to get painting on all my GZG, Critical Mass, and Khurasan goodies. That will be a fall project as well. I have the GArns and Alien Mercs painted, but both need armor support. My Critical Mass Light Recon are on sticks and primed. They are on deck.

As is my Super Hero stuff. Got a bunch of it mounted., primed and ready to go. In the past one of my problems was wanting to do a project, but it wasn't ready to paint. So by the time I was done, basing, doing ground basing, and priming, I needed a break. So I have working on getting a lot of things ready to just pick up and paint when ready. So its great. I can be as flakey as I want.

And as if all that wasn't enough, and its not, I got bored last weekend waiting for the paint to dry on my rad scorpions(above) that I pulled out my Old Glory 28mm Samurai that are mounted individually and rebased them all for Commands and Colors, my new Ancients/Medieval rules of choice. After consulting with the Baron, I settled on 50mm Square bases. I now have 12 units for C&C of Samurai. And have about 36 more unpainted. But that may change, as Samurai were really my intro to historical gaming in DBA. So here they are, unflocked, but ready to be finished. Pics aren't great.

Oh, and that Lizardman book on the floor in the first Samurai pic is to help my son pic the colors for his Lizardman Blood Bowl Team that I am going to help him paint.

Recruits is this weekend. should be a whirlwind. Not hosting a game, may do a table to sell stuff.

Recruits

Here are some very late pics of the Recruits Convention Samurai game we put on. It was with my friend Baron Von Jaye and it was using the Song of Blades and Heroes Rules. 8 factions, all to steal The Relics of True Divine Rule. It was won by a nefarious ninja clan who destroyed the relics and put the rule of misty Nippon in turnoil forever! Hope you enjoy.
