Check This Good SH!T - MacPhee's Miniature Men

I feel its all of our duty to be heralds for great wargaming stuff we see on the interwebs(thank you Al Gore). So I give you my semi regular installment of ...Check This Good SH!T!

Scott MacPhee over at Mac Phee's Miniature Men has been at it again. His 15mm Napoleonic an Civil War stuff I profiled before in the blog. But he has outdone himself now.

He is painting 28mm Napoleonic Russians. All Foundry. Be still my heart. And the quick skill and cleanliness with which he paints them makes me believe he is the baby of Tom Weiss, Steve Dean, and Kevin Dallimore. Here is some of his work:

Its a very expressive and clean style that screams english toy soldiers. colors are vivid and will look absolutely great on the table. these are figs that would amaze en masse on the table.

Very nice Scott, Indeed.

Inspiration and multi-media

Been in a bit of the blahs on the whole gaming/painting front for the last month or so. Motivation is lacking and this one I am sitting out of instead of plowing through. I know it will change so no worries.

But I have some inspiration from a couple of sources:

First up is Cornwell's treatment of Poiters in 1356, out on Jan 8th. Mine arrived today. I absolutely love Cronwell. As George Martin says on the front cover of my brand new edition says Cornwell writes the best battle scenes of anyone. And I wholeheartedly agree. He always knows the material, he has an amazing grasp of heroism and pacing. I will probably read in a week, if that long. He'll have some of the same old tropes we all love, but man are they written fun and well.

Next is The Road. I didn't see it in the theater. But I knew that I wanted it in my DVD collection. I never read the book(or any of the authors truly dark novels), but this really tugs on a lot of things for me, post apoc, survival, and protecting your son(s). Nobody ruin it for me, I haven't seen it yet.

The Numancia Dragoons stare at me in the Workshop of Doom. I based some 15mm ECW that I needed to do, but still not much progress. I may switch gears and do some 15mm Sci Fi or 15mm Fantasy. We'll see. Keep rolling those dice, and keep your brush wet!

Great 15mm not40k Orks

Hey all, just a quick aside for those kind readers who do 15mm scifi. A quick read on TMP turned up this: http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=279392. Brilliant. I did my GZG mercenaries closer to their inspiration -

My take on them

Well Jim Klein (who I don't know but love his work now, and these pics were not used with his permission but thay are really cool. Hope you don't mind if I spread the word a little Jim) offered up this great take on them as well:

Brilliant. I love it. When I got the mercenary sculpts, this was the first thing I thought about. Wow those would be great space orcs. I decided to not do them that way cause I wanted to go a different way. But now, I may need to get some more packs so I can do them just like this. I have a bunch of 15mm Armor that could proxy. And I already have a bunch of notEldar I picked up.

You could then play large battle with In The Emperors Name, or use FUBAR or anything else. With all this OldHammer/Rogue Trader nostalgia going on, you could easily proxy all the great early stuff and have some fun. I know that Blue Moon does some great potential stand-ins for Marines.

Anybody else got some suggestions for proxies? With Demonworld's line now being reporduced, I bet with some work, you could have some Dark Eldar and Squats pretty quickly.
