Highlander Painting WIP

Well I stayed up late last night after attending to a bunch of other life things and voila! Here's the 42nd minus kilts, socks, and bonnets. And a final highlight on the faces. Not good photos. But photos nonetheless.

I can paint this uniform in my sleep at this point. And I love it. The Perry's Foundry sculpts are a breeze to paint, and I am continually amazed at how little Red is actually showing once all the belts and packs and lace and such are completed.

This is the first kilt I have done. I like it, as well as the ticking on the socks and bonnet.

Hope to complete these before the end of the weekend.

Painting Distractions and other nonsense

I ave been very busy as of late with life and so this little corner of the blogosphere has been quiet for me. And its been pretty quiet in the workshop of doom as well.

Since the Bones have arrived I have painted exactly  - ZERO. I finally got so Fusion paint so I can prime them black. Its my painting style so I really don't want to go back to the days of a white primer and painting out all the white. I hated that period in my painting. Anyway I'll get a few primed as a test and see what happens. Once I start I will be painting monsters only really.

I did base paint about 30 Mechwarrior Clix figures. Fleshing out units for my initial Mechwarrior forces. We may pick up the new quick play Alpha Strike rules and actually play Mechwarrior, or we may just continue to use them for whatever we decide to play. Either way, they are a nice distraction.

As I was contemplating 15mm Sci FI, Fantasy or Post Apoc to paint next in the 3 hours I had to paint last night, I pulled the trigger on one of theose units that had been vexing me for several years - The 42nd Royal Highlanders (Black Watch) for the Pennisula. My British Nappies are waiting on 2 infantry units to be finished so I said, what the hell. I got faces, jackets, and kilts all base painted. Hopefiully tonite I can steal an hour and finish highlighting jackets, doing boots and gaiters and getting prepped for belts and lace. I should have about a week of off and on painting to fnish them, but, they were fun. The 92nd Gordon's Highlanders are next and I should have 12 infantry Units finished and the Brit infantry is finally complete. No promises after that, but a few more guns await, as well as 3 more cav units. And you can't have the Penninsula without the KGL. I still have 3 Spanish Infantry units, a couple of cannons, and a cav unit to finish them off.

Then come the French. they wait patiently and are understandably perturbed about being bumpe once again, this time by giants in dresses. They shoud be encouraged though, because a new line of metal Vitula Legion has been released. Scultoed by Paul Hicks these beauties are as vital to the French cause in the Penninsula as the KGL were to the Brits. So once on the market I will gobble these up for a whole division I should think.

The RECRUITS Con announced that they were close to closing the PEL for games at this Falls event. Seems a bit early for a regional gaming con in mid-september. But you all know my love for the Con. I am sure I will run a game. But with Football practice and season starting, I'm gonna be mightily distracted.

Keep rolling sixes

Historicon 2013 and Update

1000 Foot General has a great first day wrap up of Historicon in pics. Take a look. It's got some nice eye candy and a lot of poeple that look like they are having a great time. Wish I could have been there.

Had a great game of Fistful of Lead - The Black Powder Era last night with the BG's. Apparently the Confederates had a defecting unit of Berdan's Sharp Shooters, and they sniped almost everyone of my Mexican Regulars. It was a lot of fun.

We also played an oldie but a goodie - Formula De. I had forgotten how fun it was. Great game from the early Euro Game revolution.

Go have some fun and paint or roll some dice.

Bones are sorted.

Well, the bones are sorted. Which in and of itself is no small task. But I'm an organizer when it comes to such things. So I have 4 piles. First one is dungeon dressings. there are only a few, and I put them in my box of GW bits for doing fantasy buildings and such. Second is the Chronoscope SF stuff. Not too much of that, put that in a box of unpainted plastic SF stuff.

Next is the fantasy characters. A huge pile. Adventurers, Fantasy races, good and evil. Tons to choose from for some fun one offs and building adventuring parties.

Finally, is the monsters and creatures. Orcs and goblins and undead and vermin and huge things and small things and all manner of things. The gold mine. I have been the most excited about getting these minis. I have a bunch of painted adventurers. I have a limited palette of monsters and creatures. Cant wait to dig in. Probably start with some vermin and work my way up from there.to the mighty Kaladrax.

Chris Palmer of GASLIGHT fame (one of the BG's favorite games) has put up a Blog to chronicle his efforts to paint all of his Bones. Good luck Chris! We'll be watching. I'll be posting mine here.

Hopefully some time to paint coming up soon. Good stroking everyone!

Bones have arrived! - 7-3-13

Bones are here. It's all so lovely. Worth the wait!

Vampire on the bottom, with the Orcpacalypse box, giants and Monsters a plenty, plus the rediculously sized Kaladrax.

This is just the base of Kaladrax. Hot Wheel and ipad for scale.

Body of Kaladrax

and finally the head of Kaladrax.
Holy crap that thing is huge. I really just had no idea. I wanted an undead dragoon who could be the centerpiece to my 15mm Undead army and be big enough to be scary. Well, I got it. He's the size of a whole division or even army. Wow Reaper.

So no more waiting. Time to sort and start painting for October when the prepainted(thank god) Dwarven Forge Dungeon Tiles show up.

Go visit the Propaganda Architect and Happy Birthday America!

A fellow Basement General has entered the fray in the blogosphere with his most excellent Proaganda Architect.

He's an ace painter and has some real beauties up of his African Warlord Army that he has been working on in bits and pieces for years now. His brush work is great and has painted some really amazing things over the years. Go check it out. and bookmark it.

Have a great Holiday weekend for those of you in the States. Celebrate the fact that you had brilliant Founding Fathers. Celebrate the Dream of the greatness of a country founded on freedom. And thank those men and women who have fought and laid their lives on the line for the freedom, safety and well being of their country and its citizens, both abroad and at home.

Happy Birthday America.
